Skymonster is having a Standup Paddle Demo at the end of July on Wednesday evening 28th 6pm-9pm @ the Lowport Center Linlithgow Loch.

Starboard are bringing up a full demo fleet of 20 boards and will be giving instruction and cruises around the Loch. At the recent Fekc Summer Solstice, those who stuck about for the Sunday had a good time trying the Standup Paddle Surfing in Shell Bay. This is a good opportunity to give it a go on an ideal flat water location. Starboard have never been north of the Lake District so i would very much like your support for this event. All you need is a wetsuit or just Bordie's if your hard core. There will be changing facilities in the Lowport Center and wetsuits and Boyancy aids are available to hire.

Post up here if you have any questions or you can make it.

Cheers
Ricc

Ace! I'll come along for a play after work. SUP is fun and much easier in flat water!

Will definitely pop along for a wee paddle about, if it's windy can i bring my kites as i've always fancied annoying the fishermen... i could maybe even try a railey over one of their boats for $hits and giggles Wink
If it looks dangerous then it's probably worth doin'!

You wouldn't beleve the hoops I had to go through to get to use the Sup's for one day. Permits and all sorts. Somthing tell me kites may not go down to well.

I wasn't really being all that serious, although It would be good to try kiting there. Anyway I bet the fishermen pay a ridiculous amount to fish there and think they own the loch and because of that I'm surprised any water sports are allowed to come within a mile of it.
Seriously though Ricc, is there an age limit for the event and can I bring Ryan along to have a go ( maybe he'll pester his mum for one for his birthday next month Grin )

The loch is incredibly well used by the Lowport Centre for sailing and kayaking, as well as fishing.

Mind you, I've seen the fish being re-stocked and I could see why the fishermen might get a bit precious. Great big fish getting ladled out of a big tank on a flatbed lorry into the lake, must cost a fortune.

When I was sorting it out they did ask if there was anyone under 16 which I did say no but I was wanting to take Marcello. I've got one more meeting with them so I'll ask what the script is with that. As Jayne says it's a council run operation and the water sports is a big part of that which is very busy hence the hasle to get the demo there.

They did ask about safety and I told them you would be leahed to a very large flotation device, the board. That seemed to be fine

Remember when you mention under 16's to the council that they are children of the people taking part, otherwise they might start asking you for disclosure scotland info (although you should be fine for that with your f/aiding anyway).

I'm trying to persuade my son (13yrs) to come along. My daughter is showing some interest although she referred to is as surfing with a stick....... Can you say that in the new world of SUP Shock

I was down the Lowport centre today and asked about the under 16`s, and the other points folk have made. They will check and get back to me.

For those who don't have a wetsuit they are available to hire at a cost of £1, also buoyancy aids are available if you want one at a £1. I`ll also check if these are required.

One other point is you wish to use the full changing facilities they are also £1.

When i speak to them I`ll clarify all the above points.

Cheers

I might erect my tent on the Peel grass as a changing room, 50p a go! Can't stand up in it tho.

I have a couple of buoyancy aids if anyone needs to borrow one.

The SUP on this isn't exactly Lithgae Loch. Always thought it was more sedate tho is the paddle strictly necessary for the waves on the vid.
